Classroom Observations

The Social Communication Connection is proud to partner with local preschools to offer classroom observations for concerned parents, teachers, and administrators. With parent permission, our experts come into the classroom to observe your child at work and play. The classroom observation is intended to serve as a naturalistic screening to determine whether there is a need for formal evaluation.

Speech-Language Screenings

A screening is a pass/fail examination which will show if there is a need for further in-depth testing. After the screenings are completed, a one-page summary of screening results will be provided. Upon request of the school, speech-language screenings may take place at your child's preschool. Speech-language screenings may also be scheduled with us directly to be completed in our clinic.

Speech Assessments

During this one-hour appointment, our speech-language pathologists will complete a formal assessment of articulation skills and informal assessment of connected speech in order to determine the presence or absence of an articulation/phonological disorder. We also complete a brief screening of the child's receptive-expressive language abilities to rule out the need for further language assessment.

Comprehensive Speech-Language and Social Communication Evaluations

During this two-hour appointment, we will assess your child's articulation (how their words sound), receptive language (what they understand), expressive communication (what words they know and how they put them together), and social communication abilities (how they use what they know to communicate wants and needs and share information). We also carefully analyze play abilities and behavior to give a full and accurate description of your child. Based upon results of your child's performance across domains, we will determine whether a speech-language diagnosis is appropriate and, if so, provide recommendations for intervention and further assessment, if warranted.

Interdisciplinary Developmental and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Evaluations

The Social Communication Connection is proud to partner with local psychologists to offer interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary developmental evaluations, which may rule in or out the appropriateness of an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis, among other developmental disorders.  An interdisciplinary approach to assessment results in the strongest diagnostic and programming decisions. The word "interdisciplinary" is not interchangeable with the word "multidisciplinary." While both approaches involve professionals from various fields, only in interdisciplinary assessment do professionals work in a truly collaborative manner to integrate information for diagnostic and programming decisions.

Financial Information

The Social Communication Connection is a fee-for-service agency, meaning all services must be private paid at the time services are rendered. While SCC does not submit to insurance companies, services may be reimbursable by your insurance company under your "out-of-network" speech therapy benefits (The CPT code for speech-language evaluations is 92523. The CPT code for speech assessments is 92522.) We encourage you to contact your insurance company with any questions.
